Advocacy Goals
Legislative & Regulatory Agenda
The AANS/CNS Washington Committee and Washington Office efforts focus on advancing policies across its core priorities:
Champion Fair Reimbursement
Improve the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule with inflation-based updates, protect global surgery payments, expand telehealth flexibilities, strengthen payment dispute resolution, and address Medicaid reimbursement disparities.
Improve Health Care Competition
Address consolidation trends, support physician ownership of medical facilities, broaden provider networks, and advance tax policies that expand insurance coverage.
Increase GME Funding
Expand Medicare-supported residency positions and preserve existing training structures to sustain high-quality neurosurgical education.
Reduce Administrative Burdens
Reform prior authorization, step therapy, and Medicare’s appropriate use criteria to prevent delays in medically necessary neurosurgical care.
Boost Federal Research Investments
Prioritize NIH funding, protect research infrastructure, foster physician-industry collaboration, and support medical innovation.
